I am a die-hard Valvoline guy, but if there were no Valvoline, I probably would use Chevron or the very similar (I'm told) Havoline. I have heard nothing but good things about Chevron oil and it is only $1.08 at Walmart. Also it is group II base oil.

Chevron oil

Been using it for the last couple of years in my 89 BII & 92 F150. No problems.

Chevron oil is one of those "sleeper" products. I used to buy Pennzoil and Valvoline because I saw the logos on race cars and on TV and in magazine ads. Castrol and Mobil are marketed the same way. In this part of the country, Chevron is number one in fleet oil sales. I have been using Delo for five years now.

Chevron, Conoco and PetroCanada, among others, have great base oil and additive chemistry at a good price maybe because they do not spend too much on marketing.

Jim,
I think you have nailed it. I have long believed that about both the Chevron oil and the Formula Shell.
