There has to be some heplful FORD VAN GUYS OUT THERE.
well do u want to save the body? if so losen the body mounts up and then (keep in mind the front of the Van needs to be gone bye bye. )cleared out and then pull the mounts and and useing a motor lift pull the motor out PLEASE make sure all wires are unhooked the pipes are gone also it makes thing so much eazier to teanker with . if u and rip the motor down like alt. power steering and water pump AKA fan and fan clutch. offok well best of luck.
removing pasenger seat and doormay be necessary for the older vans where the motor is in between the front seats, but for the 75-91 models, i know you can get it out from the front of the van. no need to remove anything from the interior but the doghouse. you do need to take out the front grill, cross bracing and radiator up front there, of course.
pretty sure a chilton's or haynes manual would give you more details on how to get the motor out. probably good $12-16 investment, if you don't have one already.
I can't remember exact details, but my dad pulled a 300 out of a 77 we had years ago.
The radiator, grill, and cross brace was taken off. Then the motor was stripped down to the block. Engine lift was hooked as close to block as possible.
Just replaced my last year it comes out the front, like some of the other posts, remove the radiator, grill and the cross member and remove everything on the front of the motor. They make a plate with a hook that attaches to the intake after you remove the carb so you can the engine lift as close as possible to pull it out.Goodluck !!!
I mentioned to another poster about the Hayne's manuals for Econolines. They are quite helpful. You can get them from any supplier, ie:Napa etc. As for installing, how about first have a dry place to do the work, then rent or borrow an engine hoist. If you get the manual it's got all the steps plainly laid out.
