Trans cooked?

I have a 97 Expedition E/B bought as a repo 2 years ago.It had 91000 and was very clean. From the time I have had it I noticed trans had a shudder at 60-65mph,below that and above it was fine.Trans guy said it was torque convertor. It now has 110000 miles and I think trans puked on the way home.It has a nasty slip when first starting off but once it's up to speed it drives fine.I was wondering what kind of trans I have(5.4 engine)and how much I can expect to pay for a rebuild? Thanks Dave

It should be the E4OD which preceded the 4R100. A new 4R100 is around $1,650. I'd expect a rebuild to be in the $1,000 to $1,300 range.

First try a complete flush and filter change before going for expensive repairs. Solenoid checks. Valve checks. Many things to cause issue without meaning major overhaul.

I definitely would do a fluid flush and change first and see what happens.
