Remote key entry

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Dec-02 AT 06:57 PM (EST)]Is there any way to tell if my truck has the remote keyless entry receiver? Where would the receiver be mounted? If it has one can any transmitter be programed to work, if so how is the programing done? Bought the truck used and a transmitter didn't come with it.

Thanks

Remote key entry

These are the programming instructions for the 2003 model- it should be the same for your '99.

You need to "cycle" the ignition system 8 times within 10 seconds- in other words, rapidly turn the key between "on" and "off." You should end with the key in the on position. At this point the doors will lock and unlock, indicating that you have keyless remote entry and the system is ready to program the remotes. (If they don't lock and unlock, then you don't have KRE.) Just press any one of the buttons on a "3-button" remote (lock, unlock, panic) and the locks should respond. If you happen to have a spare remote around, go ahead and try it- you can't hurt the system. If it doesn't work, then it's time to see your friendly local Ford parts department. They'll get you the right remote.
