crank position sensor
I'm considering changing the cps in my 98XLT; i think it may be the culprit in cranking problem I'm experiencing. Where is it and how difficult is it to replace. Pics would be nice

Sorry, no pics, but all three engines(4.0 ohv/4.0 sohc/5.0 ohv) have their crank sensors down by the crank damper on the passenger side. An easy way to know if you have a crank sensor fault is to watch the Check Engine Light. Turn key on: CEL should light up, now crank the motor: CEL should go off(as soon as the engine computer sees that it has a good crank signal it turns off the CEL). I've had this same problem on my friends 4.0 sohc explorer, caught the CEL staying lit while cranking, went to the sensor's two wire connection, wiggled it some and it started up! That was over a year ago and it's never acted up since
