C6 acting funny.

My C6 suddenly started giving me trouble. I check the fluid and it was a little low. I topped it off and it did not help.

If I put it in drive. It takes off in first but will not shift to 2nd. If I manually move to 2nd, it shifts very rough. When I shift from 2nd to Drive, it stays in 2nd or goes to neutral (I may be pushing it too far when it goes to neutral?).

I have not checked the vacuum connection yet, but my vauum gauge shows things to be good.

The tranny got a quality rebuild about 4000 miles ago. I recently mated it to my project motor. I did not plumb up the cooler yet, I just ran a short piece of tubing between the in and out. It's near the exhaust, so it coudl get a bit warm. But there is no bed on the truck and very little overall load. I'm wondering if I cooked something?

Answered my own, question. The vacuum connection was unhooked at the tranny. I just had the hose stuck in the end of the gizmo on the tranny. Is there supposed to be some type of fitting?

I'm also working on a cooling setup, I have a tranny cooler, small radiator and I have the radiator fan from my old motorcycle. I'm rigging up the fan to the tranny cooler. Just need to figure out where and how to mount it :-)

Aybody ever mount a tranny cooler somewhere in the back or closer to the transmission. Say, between the frame and cab edge at the back of teh cab.

As long as it gets some airflow I think it would be fine. Check out the Flex-a-lite cooler on this page:

Hey that look good! I would keep an eye on the rubber lines and connections, the pressure can go over 200 lbs, there's a reason why the factory used metal. While you're at it, how about a temp. gauge?

I'm with you, I'd like to plumb up a temp gauge as well. I may look for one tomorrow.

This is supposed to be transmisson cooling line, so I hope it's up the pressure. hopefull, I'll have a short simple route if I put it near the back outside of the cab.

What is supposed to hold the vacuum hose in the modulator gizmo?

The hose should slide on snugly to the nipple of the modulator.

Got a pic of the gizmo?

The gizmo is a modulator or whatever. The connection is recessed in the "Gizmo", so I can't get a clamp on it. Just stuff the hose in there, and hope it stays???

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe the hose you have is too big? Here's what the factory preformed hose looks like, it connected to a steel line going to the engine:

That's it, I guess my hose is too big....I've always had that problem :-)

Funny that it ran for a long time that way. It looks like the end expanded, so I cut it a bit shorter but it still fits loose.

BTW,I mounted the tranny cooler between the frame and the edge of the cab on the passenger side near the back of the cab. I'll get a pic posted soon, maybe tonight.

I have yet to wire up the fan. I need to get a box that has a single high current relay to several connections that I can trigger with the 12V ignition. I've got the main cooling fan, this tranny cooler fan, the MSD, the electric choke and maybe an electric fuel pump in the future. Any suggestions for such a gadget?

Get a Bosch relay, they're pretty popular and good for 30 or 40 amps. I use one for the LOUD HORNS on my Suzuki.

You probably don't want to mount it at the frame & the cab. You can mount it to the cab or the frame, but don't connect between the two because the flexing will eventually cause a crack somewhere. If you must mount it this way, use some soft insulators (rubber mounts) at the cooler.

The x-members I used to support it are reasonably flexible and are only fix mounted to the frame. They simply rest on the inner lip of the cab body. They can move slightly with the cab without causing any issues. I think it will stay put.

As far as the relay goes, I was hpoing for something pre-fabricated with one relay that fed several connections. Each connection is not very high current, but the sum could be 10-20 Amps.
