Got any ideas why it would be hard to push when cold? sprayed the linkages last night......but it didn't help. thinking now maybe it's the cables themselves but why would it go away after a few seconds? or could it be a sticky throttle plate? can't think of anything else that would cause it
I seem to be having the same problem with a sticky throttle plate. During the plug change I just finished I observed a sticker on the throttle boby stating NOT to clean the inside of the throttle body as it is treated with something. I opened the throttle plate and MAN! was it black and goopie. What't the poop with the goop?. Any ideas, leave it or clean it?. Just Carb cleaner?. Any ideas on injector cleaner for the gas tank?. Good or Bad?.

You need a special throttle body cleaner that does not attack the coating. I believe most suppliers will have it.
Be sure your intake past the air cleaner has no leaks, and if you're using a K&N or other "high performance" filter, consider going back to the paper type.
Chevron Techron is recommended for FI cleaner, but I don't think that's your problem.
My 2k is starting to have that problem as well. When I had a 97 explorer, there was a recall on the throttle body, but I didn't think my throttle body was bad. Thanks for lettin me know what the problem was. I will take a look at it as soon as I get my little car put back together.
Your throtle body is sticking because of the exhaust gas (an inert gas that reduces nitrogen emissions) that is injected right behind the throttle body. This is normal, but messy. Cleaning with something that is safe for the coating that Ford used is a good idea.
Techron is an excellant injector and fuel system cleaner. Unfortunately because the fuel is injected beyond the throtlle body, it will have no effect on this problem.
I'm curious, does anybody know what the likely result would be if the special coating on the interior throttle body was removed?
(Last summer the lower EGR bolt broke off in the trottle body on my 5.4. Had to pull the TB to drill it out and also used "GumOut" to clean the works while it was apart).
Don't know how true this is, but it's from a former Ford tech...THe coating is to prevent the posssibility of airleaks caused by a porous casting...which is rarely the case but it really helps with a rebuild cleaning up the buildup from crankcase emissions(ie carbon deposits and oil) don't know if it's legit but he was pretty knowledgeable when i was rebuilding my '93 302 which had this coating which was coating free after the chem bath and had no effect on the way it ran afterwards
Thanks for the info. My EXPY definitely ran better after shooting the TB with carb cleaner...just hated to read that it also could have damaged it. Sounds like there was probably no real harm done.
