Question Burning Oil????

Hey Guys, I am completely new to a diesel and have a couple of questions. I have checked my dipstick a couple of days in a row and it looks like I am burning some oil. I don't see any running down the side of the engine anywhere and I don't see any color coming out of my exhaust. ANY IDEAS???

Also, when I am running 70mph in 5th gear my rpms are 2500 is that normal and can I change my gears in the rear end to get better mileage and still be able to pull our travel tralier. Thanks for the help.

1996 350PSD Dually 138,000 miles

THANKS!!

How much oil are you using daily? If its a few quarts or more ckeck you fuel tank for one. If the fuel looks black thats where its goin. time for O-rings. And you are sure there are no leaks anywhere? Especially in the Valley of the engine or at the rear of the engine?

If you have 4:10 gears (like me) then, 2500 rpm sounds right at 70 MPH. And, other than using a little more fuel, there's nothing wrong with that. I think these things like to run hard.
As for pulling your trailer -- well, that depends alot on how heavy it is, and, how much pure pleasure you get from blowing a Dodge off the road.
