Does anyone know why the a/c compressor would be coming on when I select the panel & floor heat setting. I know it is suppose to come on when using the defrost mode but don't know why it would be coming on in the panel & floor mode. It also does not come on when i select the floor or panel only setting. This can't be helping the allready poor gas milage.(I have a 97 eddie bauer expy with the 5.4)
My understanding is that your system is working the way it was designed. For whatever reason, Ford decided to have the AC compressor working on all settings except for vents only or floor only. It's the same w/ my '00 EB. Ford should take a lesson from Honda and have a selectable AC button that only automatically comes on when the defrost is activated.
Ironically enough my now traded-in '00 Focus had the selectable A/C button which I miss dearly. The too much torque to get anywhere with snow, I don't miss too much.
The '03's and up EB's have an A/C button it looks like it defaults to keeping it running, but you can shut it off with the push of a button, and keep the system in Auto Mode.
