Hi. can anyone tell me what i can do to make my handbrake hold,
every service i get on my explorer I ask them to adjust them, only to be told theres not much they can do,I have to pull it on so tight that it's hard to get off,'if I don't the car rolles foward onto park in my auto tran making it stick and hard to get out of park,it can't be doing the tranny any good, any ideas .

But by this age, you may need new emergengy brake shoes. E brakes are in the internal drum section if the disk. Regular brakes are disk in the rear. Even if you never use the E brake, there have been many problems with the brake shoes just delaminating into tiny pieces. I had to put new E shoes on my 97. One shoe was completely missing the brake material and no pieces of it were found in the drum. There is no reason I can imagine for these needing to be adjusted unless they are replaced. You likely need to have the shoes replaced. Bad thing is the can't be inspected. Removing drum will usually destroy them.
