I did a search but didnt find anything. How does the chrome plate come off the radio? I took off the ***** and a couple of screws and while it looks like a factory radio the holes are not drill round in the dash. I finally kept prying and it popped loose and the prior owner has thread? wrapped around the stem to make the gear and needle move inside. Does anyone restore radios and I assume somekinda gear goes on the stem to turn the gear to moce the needle but there doesnt appear to be anything on the stem to hold the gear?????
Are you talking about the radio That has the narrow chrome dial with tone adjust control on volume ****, if so If I remember, you just pull the ***** off, and pull on both control stubs firmly and it will pop off. My 64 has one like this.
I have an AM radio for my '62 F-250 I have ready to install in my radioless dash, as soon as I get a template for my dash, so I can get the exact location of the holes. I played with the tuning shaft for a couple of days, & finally found the right combination of the gear going on first, then a combination of the little washers, then the nut, to get it to work. That is ok for the uninstalled radio, but I am sure the distance will change somewhat, after I get it into the dash. I assume you either figured yours out, or gave up, since your message is 5 months old. If your radio is still out, & you would be willing to make a template by taping a piece of paper at a common reference point on the dash, such as the bottom of the dash & the left edge of the ash tray, & cutting/magic-marking the holes exactly, & mailing the page to me, I would greatly appreciate it, pay for postage/handling. Thanks, Art
AM radio is mounted in the dash, but I cannot get the tuner dial to work. I had it working off the truck, after figuring out the mysterious combination of thin washers & the brass gear that turns the plastic gear on the face plate, but once it is in the dash, I cannot get it to work. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Art J.
May try slightly loosening the 2 face plate retaining screws, possibly binding. Hard to find them in good working condition. Oh yes, trying to figure out the correct thin washer to brass gear combination. On occasion see them on ebay.
Radio works, & tunes, the brass gear does not turn the plastic gear in the face plate, which I can get to turn with my finger. Seems the tuning shaft & the brass gear would have corresponding flat spots to keep the brass gear from turning, & engage the plastic wheel. Found an old working aerial, drilled the hole by the windshield with a spade bit. An access panel by the battery allows the aerial to be fitted with the washer that holds it to the body. I fed the wire thru the vent opening, thru a hole in the top of the heater/air tunnel, & on to the radio. Easier than going thru sheetmetal
