I seriously think that if you upgraded to a quality bar and plate FMIC, and maybe a larger diameter IC piping that you would definately seem some quality gains in both performance and lower IAT's.

Air to air is the best right now, but if a guy would put a A/C evaporator on the discharge side of the air to air in a box and tee
the A/C system then you would have a cooold intake with very little money and would be easy do do.

All of the 6.0 have air to air after coolers and depend on ambient air temp to cool(air to cool air) (after the turbo)

The inter coolers are not as good because thy used the engine radiator water to cool the air down to the engine temp. (internal air cooler) like dodge Cummings.

The Volvo diesels on my boat use a water to air system (using salt water before it gets to the heat exchanger to cool the engine coolant) very efficient. Too bad there's no steady source of nice cold water in the trucks. Might I suggest using a probe type meat thermometer to record the temps from both sides. The ones with the wire that feeds the little timer/thermometer thingy.

Frightening thought! The change from internal combustion to steam does interesting things to connecting rods. I cracked a manifold on a mercruiser once at about 4500 RPM. It was interesting to say the least.

But would this be greater than the loss experienced while running the a/c?

My a/c is on every time you use the heater . I don't know y ford did that but every time you turn on the climate control the a/c pumps on, it only takes a couple of hp's to run, so the gain would be a big plus.

I thought it was only supposed to come on when the defroster is activated
