After reading many posts here I am considering switching to Rotella T.
My 96 Mazda B4000 has 72k miles and is in good shape. I've been using 10w-30 year round (I'm in Florida) with no problems.
Is it ok to use 15w-40?
I am not worried about cold starts but I am concerned the 40w portion may be too thick.
Is this a reasonable concern?
Most of these heavy duty motor oils are also available in a 10w30, but not at Walmart. Try a truck parts supply. Also, the 10w30 likely comes minimum 1 gallon container. As for running the 15w40, you probably would be OK, but you should check your owners manual recommendations. I would probably stay with the 10w30 unless your oil pressure is running below spec.
Thanks guys.
I went searching for Rotella T 10w-30 and this is what I've learned so far.
Autozone-no
Advance Auto-no
Pep Boys-no and then they told me no such oil exists and even if it did Rotella is only for diesels. Remind me never to go there again!
O'Reilly's-no
That's it in this town.
I guess a road trip to a truck stop is my last chance.
Is there an internet vendor for this flavor of Rotella?
You are in Florida. Dont worry about it. 10W-30 diesel oils are not carried by distributors here in Southern California either. Delo 400 and Rotella T are stocked in 15W-40 and straight 30 just about everywhere. I think the 5W-40 synthetic grades have taken over the cold-climate fleet oil market today.
