Looking to get the back mounting plate off the insert that i have wondering how the best way to do it or if anyone has done it before any tips would be helpful
You need to remove the panel on the inside of the tailgate, then you have access to the nuts that hold that fancy Ford tailgate molding on
It looks like you have the fancy Ranger panel people like
I have never done this as I have a Sports Custom, but here are several quotes from folks that say they have done it. Good luck, let us know what worked for you.
"I was able to remove the aluminum panel. I was really careful to slightly bend the bottom crimp and loosen the metal back panel. Once free, the back easily popped out."
"The best way is to try and remove the rear panel is to shift the back panel to one end and then try to get it out of the front panel without uncrimping it too much on one end."
"If it gets uncrimped, you probably need to use a large metal brake to recrimp the part that was uncrimped to not damage the aluminum part."
"You are going to have to uncrimp at least one end (short side) and slide out the steel backing."
