1997, f250, 7.3. Low miles..78k.
long crank at startup cold has gotten worse...several years now, started a long crank 4ish sec . I would cycle the wts a couple times and would start quicker, blowing blueish smoke.. bigger cloud as time went on but doing so kept cranking reasonable..when warm was good. Now, doesn't do beans if I cycle wts. No smoke at all now. Long..and i do mean its like 9-10 sec at least and longer..crank to get started.
ohm'd out glow plugs, all fall into .5 to .6 range(tested through connectors at cover so assume inside wiring good). Gpr power passing through and stayin powered 1-2 min. Gas in tge bowl, filter looks good, no debris in bottom. Cps is new version.
psi off the shrader valve at fpr bouncing 52-58psi.
buzz tested injectors, no codes for anything. Checked pcm connection and pins. Unplugged icp, no change in length of time to start.
ran scan with forscan, dunno exactly what I'm looking for but reading icp and ipr once started. Icp was like 12-13 and ipr was like 4800kph? I wanna say...didn't seem like numbers moved till it started...
im down to IPR being the issue...its original...
thoughts or ideas, tests?
help....
Check fuel bowl level after 8 hours, low level could mean going back to tank
Check HPOP level as well, No oil will take to fill
How fast is your starter turning? too slow it wont fire
Front main seal leaking? It can suck in air and cause hard starts
another thing to test, PLUG THE BLOCK HEATER IN. leave it plugged in for at least 2 hours before trying to start. if it fires rite up, it is a glow plug issue. if it still acts the same, it is electronic issue.

Fuel bowl full, stays that way. Will double check hpop level, I could see it last time with out flash light... Batts are good, 1yr old, and I reg put trickle chatger on them. Starter spins the motor great. Starter was replaced couple yrs ago. (Honestly truck doesn't get a lot of use, bought with 42k, now 78k 17yrs later)
front main leak? Have no oil dripping on ground, but front of motor is a little oily/dirty...

Ok, I'm gonna sound dumb, where is the block heater plug? I've worked on thus critter a bit, never bothered to look or locate it...
Nevermind, found post describing locatiob, will look and plug in in a bit.

Getting to 500 PSI to fire the injectors is needed.
That make me think air in system, injector oring going or IPR sticking.
Is fuel filter media black?
Do all injectors squirt and not from the base? (will have to pull off the VC and run it with them off to do this test)
IPR rebuild kit are easy to do for piece of mind
Haven't cranked yet....
Ok, rechecked gpr, 12.6 in, starts at 10 9 when hit switch, climbs to 11.3, stays there approx 1 min ish according to stop watch and then stops, no power through anymore
checked hpop, yup, approx 1/2 in to oil.
checked, heater has been removed and plugged before I got it.
checked fuel bowl, lifted out filter, 1/2 bowl when removed, spilled again when put back in....crap..
have pass valve cover off. Looks clean to me, very little oil inside, no noticeable wire issues. Bout to pull gp's and ohm...
was looking for pooling around injectors, how? never tried to start with cover off. is it gonna be messy?...what look for if top orings leaking?
Fuel filter is not black, Fuel is nice and green. ill get a new filter as it prolly needs it.
pulled the plugs from the injectors, connectors wet, oily , no gasket around them...issue? Wouldn't think so..but? Nothing frayed or broken.
