Radio Setups

I need to get a radio for my wife’s 77. Current alpine ain’t working. I thought maybe I would go with a retro but I’m leaning more towards something more modern and something I can see easier with our older eyes.

Has anyone tossed in a touch screen one?

Period correct Pioneer KE-1111 (have a slightly later KEH-7272 for spare now) AM/FM/Cassette has ***** and presets ... since the 1980s but with a wired modulator feeding in audio from docking station for my SkyFi XM reciever that goes with us. Speakers are Audiovox "Tryvox" 6.5" round triaxles. With XM, I just leave the radio on #1 which is 89.7 FM and the XM is used to select station.

I located and bought an original Ford AM/FM stereo. It fits perfectly, cables up perfectly, and sounds good enough for bouncing around in a noisy 53 year old truck. I bought a set of Scosche 6-1/2 inch coaxial speakers, NIB, at a Goodwill store for $20. They sound better than stock speakers and didn't cost much.

I bought the Shokz headphones my 77 F150 still has a cassette player with the one speaker in the dash, on my 77 F250 I bought a "new" at the time CD player w/b-tooth and mounted it in the center behind the shifter, next to the seat, left the original AM radio in the dash, I still wear my Shokz most of the time when driving my older trucks, they don't cover your ears, you can still hear if they start making weird noises (the truck, not the wife, but maybe her too... ) and you don't have to hack up the dash. I can carry on a conversation while driving handsfree, if the windows aren't all the way down.

I would say pretty much a nope... sorry for the non help, the dash's back then weren't really laid out like newer trucks, the radio was an option back then. I'm sure you could get creative with how you do it, but many, including myself don't fancy to hacking up a dash for a touch screen, and trying to relocate controls for heat/blower, tank switch to make room.

I'd have to sit in my truck for a while to try and figure out where to put it, with some imagination and such you might be able to come up with a plan...

I didn't go with a touch screen. I went with a $25 retro vintage radio off the amazons. It's cheap. bluetooth works well. has a usb plug for charging. has a slot for an sd card for mp3s. it changes colors which drive me bonkers and can't stop it. hands free works but sucks.

but.... bottom line. it's cheap until I can get something a little better.

The previous PO already ejected the original factory radio and hacked up the dash so it was needed and didn't want to dump a lot of $ money into it right away.

I went with the Retrosound on mine and am pretty happy with it. It originally had a DIN radio when I bought it, but I bought a new dash bezel and I just couldn't bring myself to cut it up.
