I couldn't reach the pedals, it was a Jeep Universal COE like PU, that Texas sun was beating down, Daddy was up on that radio tower, and them goats (maybe was sheep?) were getting close around me, and I was "booking".
I must have done OK, that was 1959 and I'm here to tell the tale.
When I was a kid (and even maybe still to this day ) when we would go to friend's houses/farms to visit/dinner whatnot, when it was time to leave and they couldn't find me, they would have to go look in the equipment barn and for anything with a steering wheel to find me... I don't remember it, but apparently I was found a few times "asleep at the wheel"! Even to this day, last year my older sister sent me a birthday card (57th) with a little kid standing on a tractor seat "driving the field" but going nowhere! When she called on my b-day, she was telling me they were at my folks and had to go look for one of my nephews, they found him in the shed "driving" pop-pops tractor! Then they all got laughing and talking about having to "go look for Joe" every time we went somewhere and couldn't find me
So yeah, pretty sure even those who won't admit it, do it on occasion, even if it's just silent time
