For anyone considering the OEM Ford accessory wheel-well side boxes (full length, not the swing out ones)--these mount to the cleats on the sides of the bed. Due to these being further apart on the 8' bed, the 6.75" box kit WILL NOT MOUNT in an 8' bed. The dealership near me was kind enough to allow me to try experimenting.
Additionally, Ford lists these as incompatible with a Tonneau cover. I'm 99.9% certain that this is purely due to the rail clamps on the Tonneau--not because of the canister (retractable) or any other reasons. That said, not all covers are alike--and I'm going to experiment to see if I can make it work together.
