Recommend a Code Scanner;
I'm looking for a code scanner to be able to read any codes that might come up on say a 2000-2011 Ranger, 2013-current Escapes and MAY BE 1999-2003 7.3 Power Stroke Diesels.
(I have a 7.3 truck but "most" small scale scanners can't read Diesel stuff...and I realize I may need to get a specialized one to handle that.

p.s. OBD II is a generic diagnostic protocol that will work across all of those brands and models you mentioned, for reading and clearing codes and for things like freeze frame and live data.
What's your budget? The least expensive would probably be a $30-40 Bluetooth adapter and a free or cheap phone app like Piston or Torque Pro. The phone app does the work, the adapter does the transmitting and receiving.
