The 2003 Ford Excursion XLT with the V10 engine typically uses a Class IV, 2-inch receiver hitch (like the CURT 14011) offering a 12,000 lbs gross trailer weight (GTW) and 1,200 lbs tongue weight (TW) capacity, compatible with weight distribution systems. It is a bolt-on, custom-fit, powder-coated steel hitch that requires no welding for installation
Actually it depends on the year. Some were rated less because the hitch bolts, to the frame, were smaller. An updated bolt kit was offered to upgrade that and later years got the updated bolts.
2001 or 2002 I believe is when the rating changed to the way it's fastened to the frame. If it's still there you can look at the rating decal on the receiver tube.
