Wiring harness

Hello all! I have a 1985 F150 5.0 and unfortunately my motor and trans kicked the can, I have a 1994 F150 with the same motor and trans (5.0 EfI, e4OD) and I was wondering if I can just pluck those out of the 94’ and be able to use the 94’s engine bay wiring harness without having to redo the entire harness
thank you

I believe the 85 has a AOD trans.
might be able too use the 85’s bolt on’s on the 94’s block.

hopefully a expert will chime in soon.

If your going to use the engine and trans as is, you are going to need the harness and controls to go with it. You dont need the whole harness, just the parts that control the computer controls. There is quite a lot of differences between the Bull, and Aero nose trucks so its not going to be harness for harness swap.

I personally would strip the 94 down to no wiring. Use all the wiring and sensors from the 85 onto the 94 block. You could look both vehicles up on rock auto, plug in each sensor and see if it's the same or different. The same and in the same spot, you could leave and have a spare. Different, swap them over. Then the 85 harness will plug in, and match all the Ford wiring diagrams, etc. I would do all this with bracketry and stuff also. Looking at it, it would look like a 85 engine, though it was a 94.

I like where you are going with drop the 94 engine the 85 but ........
I would ditch the AOD transmission as they are trouble if you dont get the cable adjusted right.
Go with the E4OD and use a controller to get it to shift as it is a stand alone controller.
I dont think there is an easy way to move everything from the 94 to the 85 just for the transmission.

If he uses the correct bracketry on the throttle made for the AOD, then it should be an easy factory adjustment using the shop manual. The problem comes with the AOD when you are retro fitting it to a non-stock carb or throttle setup. If the 94 had the AOD and the 85 did not, and IF the throttle setup from the 94 would work on the 85, then it should accept the 94 AOD and everything should be ok.

Careful surgery required here.

So he may be able to use the 94 engine (long block) with the 85's EFI set up and then bolt the 94's E4OD and it controller into the 85 truck... ?
I believe the 85 302 was EFI ? But looks like that may have been a mid year change...?

I missed that he said he has a E4OD. I am wondering if he is sure about that, or possibly it was swapped in. I didn't know Ford put such a large transmission behind such a small engine as the 5.0.

If he does have a E4OD, then yes he will have one computer controlling the engine and the transmission, and he must use that computer and it's wiring. I think its more likely he has a AOD and it does not require a computer.

I guess it was, 2x4 and 4x4. Looks like the AOD was electronic that year also. So the 94 computer and wiring will have to come with it to run the transmission.
