Has anyone seen the latest php hydra new release? It's an interface that ties your php hydra to a cts3. I would have to buy the cts3 and medusa interface and for right now it's not on the top of my truck priority. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on this?
I have been using it for more than two weeks and I have put 750-ish miles on it so far in my 1995. I am in talks with the engineers about an issue I have had after trying to put it in another vehicle yesterday. It was rock steady for me in the one vehicle but after inputting the VIN of the second vehicle it showed a glitch and we're working on that.
If you have a need for a monitor and wanted a good excuse to have a Hydra, it's awesome. It does have its limitations as of right now. It's only possible to access the first six "positions" of the chip but development is ongoing and the monitor needs to be synchronized with the chip after waking up (device turning back on with engine start-up) but that's just hitting the level up and down buttons a couple of times to get the display talking to the Hydra.
Like anything, I would give it a little more time before jumping on it, but I think it's pretty cool right now!
What benefits does the cts3 offer? Not familiar with it.
Benefits? It's a user-configurable display for watching PCM data, it reads and clears diagnostic trouble codes, gives real-time performance data (if you care about 0-60 and quarter mile times), and can be equipped with numerous add-on sensors like EGT, temperature, and pressure that the datastream doesn't show.
Most of my vehicles already have a bevy of mechanical gauges but I ended up with this setup at a good price so I could play with it and find issues.
Here's a video link on a frosty morning last week . Pay no attention to the "Speed" in the upper right corner - the vehicle is not moving but I have some electrical gremlins to work out with a Dakota Digital Speed Converter module that picks up electrical interference when it's cold.
I picked one up to check out as it should have more benefits in the future. Wanted to get it before prices eventually go higher. I haven't installed it because of possible issues that have come up. I also have gauges but do have a CTS3 that will eventually end up in a different truck.
right now it's not needed for the avg joe. If one is just getting a hydra and goes with the CTS3 instead of gauges, it offers an option and keeps from finding a place to mount the original switch for a cleaner setup. I very rarely ever switch tunes as well anymore but having the ability from within the CT3 is a nice feature.
I picked it up mainly for a new experience and want to see what it's future holds.
