I swapped a guy my 16” x 10” aluminum mags for older 17” x 8” American racing wheels. I specifically wanted 17s to be able to run the same tires as most modern 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.
Especially with something wider, your backspacing is critical. Make sure you understand everything about wheel fitment and attachment before spending a single dollar.
32.5” OD 10 ply sidewall Dean Tires (cooper) “backroad” highway tire. Factory style 2 leaf under 1978 f250 4x4 Dana 60, with a helper to level it out. Good clearance around the disc brakes, and plenty of clearance when turning. No the sexiest looking tire for a 4x4 but very functional for a 3/4-1ton.

Don't know who made them or when, but my FIL had a '77 F-250 that had 15x8 white 8 spoke steel on it, was in late '70s, they were on it when he traded for it. They cleared the calipers is all I know. It had some off brand tires, real knobby treads, but he bought some Dunlop tires, 12.5 sticks in my mind. They were in the basement when he passed in 1985, his plan was to drive up to Alaska with a camper on it. His Son took the truck to Ga., bought a used camper and used it camping as he re-enacted the CW with a group.
I use to own a set of Shelby Cal 500 (3/4 ton 8 lug) slotted mage that were 15's....front were 15x7 rear 15x8.5, were sold them before I ever had a chance to put them on anything.
If the center of my Dodge wheels was any smaller the wouldnt fit over the hub.
I can't imagine the center of a wheel being any smaller and fitting over the hub.
You want the wheels to fit the hub exactly, not be larger
* The studs will hold all the weight if the wheel hub is bigger than the axle flange, that's all you need to remember

They are a pretty tight fit although I'm sure that they are not perfect.
Luckily for me I will never be close to what the truck is rated for.
Thinking about I actually don't recall the lug nuts being perfectly centered on the factory wheels of any of my 3/4 ton trucks.
