Hello, i have a 1987 ford f250 6.9 idi and im having problems and my current problem is my injection pump is maxed out retarded and it still feels like it needs to be retarded more, the truck smokes a lot under load so thats why im trying to get the timing set, when i bought the truck it was missing the injection pump and the gear housing so i bought an injection pump from pensocola and i was able to get the truck running with the new gear housing and pump, but now im stumped in what to do i know the timing gears are all set right because i rmved the engine timng cover and lined them all up i replaced all my fuel lines and fuel return line caps to elimanate any air intrusion and ive also verfied im not burning any coolant. i dont know if turning the fuel screw down would help. I'll also mention that with the injection pump maxed out retarded the truck seems to run smoother and start easier. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Yeah there's been a lot of reports over the years of their pumps not being any good. Some have even claimed they received obviously used pumps that haven't even been rebuilt. If the price is so much lower than reputable shops, that's pretty much a giveaway. It's a bummer the things are pricey to have rebuilt. I literally payed less for a 70k low mile IDI engine than a good rebuilt IP haha but that's how it is. Unfortunately, if they wont take the pump back, now you'll have to pay for a cheap one and an expensive one.
When I first started on my 1990 F350 "restoration" I needed a set of injectors. Hadn't found this site, didn't know where to buy my stuff......
Got a set from Pensacola, supposed to be rebuilt OEMs, but we're brand new with only s laser engraved number on them. I also bought a return line kit. Return line kit obviously said "made in China"......numbering system and font exactly same on injectors. I called and he said "not sure where they're made, but we have really good luck with them" I mentioned biodiesel and he got really adamant "WE WON'T WARRANTY OUR PARTS IF YOU RUN BIODIESEL!"
I immediately realized he didn't know as much as they purport to about the IDI.....
Anyway, I've only got 3000 miles on injectors so they're still OK, I guess.
The return line kit was a waste of money. Injector caps look cheap and leaked like a sieve. Cloth line didn't look like the real German stuff...
The reason I picked Pensacola was their "Glory be to God" on the website.
