DPF Soot Load flex

Returned from a long road trip hauling my trailer and almost at Regen. The Banks is new so I've no idea if this is typical or not. FWIW, I used a blend of Opti-Lubes XL and Boost.

my dpf stays at zero
towing or 75mph
but if we git caught in a few miles of stop, gooo
slow stop
It climbs up pretty fast to 35
once the heat is gone, it takes a few miles to drop again

I think that not only due to the fact of less EGR being used for these newer 6.7s with their upgraded PCM strategy, but also think that possibly the design of the DPFs may have improved as well.

Because that's just awesome with what you are experiencing with that new truck of yours...

egr reduction in the HO is a great easter egg, for sure
i agree the dpf technology has changed a good bit
my 21 took long long time at sustained highway speeds of 70 or more to do a passive regen
my 24 did a commanded one weds, it took less than 8 minutes to go from 20 to zero, right on time at near the 600 mile mark from last one, i think having a low soot load when it trips really makes a huge difference in the speed of cleaning.
at 65 mph
i can sense now , by a slight change in smell around the truck when it lights off
did i say i like this one alot,
i dont even look at other trucks any more
plus the bull dog likes the back seat area to lounge

If I am not mistaken, I believe the 20 6.7 started with the reduced EGR strategy IIRC but I could be wrong here... but maybe they had reduced it further and the result is the increased DEF usage.

The big upgrade to the DPF system was the 9th injector of the 23 6.7s. I also meant that maybe the internal design of the DPF has possibly changed as well but who knows?

But no doubt directly injecting fuel in the DPF gets it hotter quicker to complete the active regens a lot faster and less miles...

You pulling anything for your truck to go 600 mile regen intervals?

just the boat and that get dpf up to 35 fast around the ramp and idling at the ramp, pulling up ramp
idling whilst we secure boat, drive about 6 miles home at under 50 and then idling putting her away

I'm impressed... those new trucks just flat out work better emission wise than the older trucks... but they cost more so they should right?

You will notice your DPFDIS is 497 miles. The 23+ truck seem to have some programming that does an active regen every 497 miles It only takes 10 minutes because of the reduced loads and the more efficient 9th injector. But it still does a regen EVERY 497 miles, Regardles of what the DPF load is.

Enjoy the ride... love driving mine on the highways... just stiff AF when I get out. Getting older sucks... but all good.

probably saves SCR’s by not having to cook them….assuming 9th injector is in between SCR and DPF.

Yeah, I have no clue where the 9th injector is in relation to the SCR and particulate filter, but while this is but one, they can last a long time if the truck is used correctly to give the DPF the chance to go out that far.

Now that I am thinking about it, my buddy has a 2026 F350 6.7. I will have to get underneath it and get a pic to compare to mine for schitts and giggles...

This one was at 939k miles. And IIRC, it was replaced free of charge (but could be wrong) because Ford wanted to look at it...
