Hey guys! I have a 93 f250 7.3 idi naturally aspirated and I started having a problem when I am accelerating my engine will bog down momentarily then jump back to normal RPMs. It does it consistently and just generally running bad. I replaced all my fuel injectors, return fuel lines, fuel filter, lifter pump, and did the fuel heater delete and I had one solid day where the truck ran fantastic! Now about two weeks later is is doing the same bogging down and generally running bad. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next?
That sounds like a injection pump problem to me. How old is the pump? My first step would be to soak the fuel pump in diesel kleen to clean up the interals.
To do this, remove your fuel filter and drain it. Fill the fuel filter with diesel kleen and reinstall it. Then start the engine for 30 seconds and shut it off. Let it sit overnight or longer and then drive it around to see if its improved.
Proto has good info,, try it. Also, what fuel pump do you have? The mechanical one has a rubber diaphragm that degrades over time. There is also an “olive” on the hard intake line from the pump to the fuel filter. This is an area for air leaks. The mechanical fuel pump is not real expensive, if my memory serves me correctly I bought a new Carter from RockAuto. Changing the fuel pump is your next step if the Diesel Clean fails. Good luck.
