Utah doesn't mandate any Cetane or Wear scar standards. So refineries can get away with using the Federal minimum.
So I don't see any stations in Utah advertising a Premium Diesel. So unlike Texas as mentioned in the video and I believe California also has a premium. There is no premium diesel in Utah.

There are four refineries in Utah, And last I heard, about 70% of their production is shipped out of the state. Fuel is trucked to neighboring states and there is a major pipe into the Northwest.
All the crude oil refined at the local refineries comes from Utah. There is a large oil field in the Uintah basin. That crude has a high parafin wax content and I know they take special procedures to refine it.

In the absence of state standards, about all I can do is inspect my fuel filters and see if they are getting dirty between fuel changes and add a lubricating product just in case.

California minimum cetane rating is 53 but I still use opti-lube xpd on every fill.

New York has a 40 cetane minimum, so I'll keep using my additives for added cetane level.

Will continue Opti-lube products, shifting to boost and summer formula next fill-up in a couple days and 3x $$$ more in a 48 gal tank. Mid-Atlantic coastal region.

Same here in AZ, the diesel is ****e! I'll keep using OptiLube XPD or ArchOil 6500. His whole reasoning for saying to not use them is the possibility of debris. That is a fart in a stiff wind at best.

I wonder if that is the cetane rating for the B20 in CA. From all I read, the R99 sold in CA has a cetane rating of 70 or higher.

53 is for standard diesel. While R99 has a minimum rating of 70, there are a number of articles out there that argue that the ideal cetane rating for a modern diesel engine is somewhere between 45-55 so it all comes down to what study you want to support. My local truck stop sells R99 and I put in Opti-lube which bumps it up another 3 points or so and that would put it way above what might be ideal. I started a thread back when this fuel first showed up around here and so far, I have not noticed anything different in how the truck starts and runs.

Yeah, that is why I stopped using Hot Shots when using R99 and went to OptiLube XL. Hot Shots boosts the cetane levels, whereas the XL doesn't. But the XL has super lubrication properties! I personally haven't noticed that the truck runs any different on R99, or start ay different either... however, the coldest temps we saw this winter was 34F! lol.
