Picking what up? we love to hear about trucks, type out what it is, all the optins and drivetrain stuff, and put that in your signature or just in a post.
Quebec special SD. 2024 because of the tailgate prox sensors/camera. F450 because the turning radius > any other crew-cab SD (all but maybe a single-cab, short bed), plus brakes & all--helpful when going up/down grade. HO engine because 1200 tq seems great to have when I plan on having 20k loads behind me. Cream/Blue because I wanted a lighter color headliner than black or Smoked Truffle. Underside looked pretty mint, minus some minor surface rust (which is what I'd expect from a Quebec special). Not sure if there's anything I need to do about it. I will occasionally be in winter conditions with it--but it will largely remain down south for most of the year. I'd like suggestions on what/where to apply undercoating to help keep this in great shape. I will have this truck at least 10-20 years, god willing.
There were trucks that were already tastefully modded out there--but this one isn't. So I've got a lot of cosmetic changes to make to rectify the fugly chrome bits that Ford seems to have a fetish for. Starting with:
Best place to get paint-matched mirrors, valence, tailgate applique, side steps, etc?
LMI the best place for raise/forward seat brackets for the rear?
Looking at Pace Edwards for an 8' retractable tonneau, without vinyl overlay. I'm looking for durable (much direct sun) and great water resistance (I'm aware "proof" is a red herring).
Stock bedliner seems pretty thin and wanting. There's also a seam gap I can literally see through the bed to the ground. How difficult is it to get high-pressure liner applied over? Does it need the stock removed first?
Suggestions for plastic/metal truck box that will fit under a retractable tonneau? It will need to be at the cab, over the wheel wells, or OEM style swing-outs from behind the wheels. Need the towing area open.
I really hate polished aluminum on the inside. Can someone direct me to the B&O OEM speaker grills that are black/anodized? I'm not having any luck finding them--but I see them in pics all the time on trucks for sale.
Tailgate has visible gap to the fender. What kind of weatherstripping/option do you recommend to fix this, and help keep the bed water-resistant while not towing & the tonneau is closed?
The bed and tailgate gaps are totally normal, but you are right that if you want to keep dust and water out, you need to seal those up. No suggestions on methods or kits.
Sometimes sealing the tailgate will seal it incompletely and allow more stuff to accumulate than if it is just left alone. I've seen several attempts over the years on various trucks, but have never seen something that works so well that everyone does it.
Can you help explain the grille differences on the 5th gen Super Duty Lariat > King Ranch > Platinum > Limited? I'm looking for black-out options, but I don't see any with the Limited grille shape.
Interesting, I guess I hadn't noticed that there was a difference beyond some of them being blacked out. I looked on Google and apparently there were four possible grilles. I'd guess that the Lariat is one of the high-flow versions.
I know that there's surface rust on mine. So it wouldn't surprise me. Chrome is inherently a terrible idea for anything utility related. Rust will not be kind.
