Hhhhhmmmmm. I have a '17 2.7 with only 37000 on it. I am thinking it is going to get traded off next year as it is a November '16 build date. No leaks or problems. I can afford it but does seem crazy. Now you've got me thinking.......
I too had a partial tear in the rotator cuff. I did it on the job in November '07. I had hurt it pretty bad in '80 but got by with PT and suffering. Had surgery in May '08. Back to work in October '08. Retired June '18. Never had an issue with it.
As bad as my post op pain was, I'd do it again. A big hit followed by relief beats constant pain, doubt and fear of further injury--for me anyway.
Right now, with all of the recalls going on, any newer 1/2 ton is a crapshoot. No brand is safe. Cheap plastics and Chinese electronics. The most dependable vehicle I own is my '58!

Good luck with both issues.
Dr recommend surgery, but I told him I would take it easy for a few months, and do the exercises I was given in PT. Things are better, but still not great. Just don't want to get cut on. My wife just had rotator cuff surgery in November, and she was miserable for weeks.

Yep, that’s part of my issue with the cost of fully repairing it. There just isn’t a new truck out there that does it for me. A Ram 2500 is as close as it gets, with it’s excellent engine choices and transmissions. I really like the way new F150s look, but that 10 speed….
I cant take the look of the Super Duty’s giant headlights, plus the 10 speed issue again.
Trucks 20 and 30 years ago were truly better than whats offered today.
And agreed, way too much electronics. Calling it “tech” doesn’t make it better.

I tore a rotator back when I was a young pup. It took almost two years to get back to close to normal. Whenever I did just a little overboard with PT, it would backslide. It was a tough two years. I don't think I could go through that again.
For used vehicles, I read that 2019 F250 6.2/6spd is one of the least likely to have problems... if the previous owner was good (yes, I know this is the F150 forum. My 14 F150 5.0 had no problems either).
For the shoulder injury, I found PT does help if you are consistent. The biggest challenge is to avoid another mishap though. If your shoulder damage is soft tissue only, muscle, tendon, ligament, and not completely torn, look into BPC-157. BPC-157 is an enzyme peptide that helps repair soft tissue damage. I suggest going through a doctor prescription to ensure you are getting pharmaceutical grade stuff and not imitation. IIRC, BPC-157 with TB500 from the doctor was about $200 a month without insurance and you would likely want at least two months.

Thanks, I'll ask my doctor about that.
I pick up the truck today. Then I'm going to put about 600 lbs in the bed, and take it home, so it should be about a 40 mile drive, half of that loaded. We'll see if drips from on the bottom of the bell housing. At least the smell of oil burning off the exhaust should be gone. Hopefully All I'll find is some seepage residue every few months.
Picked it up this afternoon. The drive home from the shop was nice, no more burning oil smell. When it got home, I crawled under and found just a little oil on the bottom of the bell housing, and a drop on the back of the bottom of the passenger head. Driver side was dry. I cleaned it all off, then headed to Home Depot to buy 600 lbs of salt. Drove it hard there, and back. When I pulled in the garage, everything was mostly dry, just a tiny bit of residue on the bell housing. It very well could still be working it's way down out of places I cant see, so I may see it for a few days yet. Usually, A trip of about 20 miles, hauling heavy, has produced oil, and especially the smell as it dripped on the exhaust.
It all seems good now. It doesn't smell like an old diesel now. I will keep a close eye on it in the coming days and weeks.
Also, had it aligned. Prob the best this truck has ever been aligned. There was a slight drone anytime when wheel was moved to the right, even slightly. Especially noticeable on rural roads. The steering wheel was also about 3 degrees of center, since it was last done at a local Ford dealer. Now it's quiet, the wheel is straight, and the steering is tight. Nice job by Cambridge Auto Center in San Antonio, and independent ASE shop.
Sorry about all that Brad. It's definitely a large toasted schit sammich. Say yummy!
This will sound blasphemous in an F150 forum BUT, it you don't tow, the Ranger is an awesome extremely no drama truck......equipped with the amazing 2.3L of course.
As I look deeper into the new F150's right now, I'm very sad to say that I'm not finding any reason to trade out of my 15 year old ecoboost. My nephew just bought a new 2025 STX with the 2.7L.........I wish he had called me before signing. He did get a nice ESP.
These new trucks are perhaps some of the sexiest F150's ever built EXCEPT for the 1980-1986 models of course. But they are OMG expensive and unless one owns a business and can write it off, can pay cash for it OR is so wealthy that money means nothing, you need to be able to keep it for twice as long as your financing terms just to feel like it was a decent value.
The bell housing is still dry today. But Saturday was the last time it was driven. I have a fairly good feeling. The timing cover seep is not a concern for me at this point, as it’s never formed a drip, just an oily ffilm in that area.
I really like Rangers with 2 exceptions. The notorious 10 speed, and the back seat is not really useful. If I were to get another F150, I’d like a super cab.
But, I’d rather keep my truck, as long as the leak or leaks never progress past class 1.
Texas BBQ masks all foreign flavors and is yummy no matter what!
I hear you on the Ranger concerning back seat space but the 10sp has really smoothed out.
I gave my daughter my 2010 Focus when she went off to college and she still has it. She pulls it on a car trailer loaded to the gills with with her gear. She normally scales right around 7K and her 2018 F150 yanks that rig all over the place and through the mountains without so much as one single complaint.
Yesterday I drove it about 40 miles, and found dirty oil on the bottom of the bell housing again. The oil has dye in it, so I need to get a UV light to check it. It may just be old oil that drained from the valve covers seeping. Why does it have to be such a PIA to get to the rear main seal?

Again, I'm really sorry this is happening to you. TBH, these trucks like to be drive hard frequently. I think lack of use will kill a truck as much as lack of maintenance.
Since I've retired, I only drive mine about 4K to 5K a year and I'm afraid that's barely enough. But, it's very hard for my bride to climb up in it which will force a downsize next time.
I'm a financial point in my life where I can afford a real nice superduty and I have to get a Ranger or a Mav. That's ok, she's worth it.
