Gypsy Rose Lee solution

I'll bet only the older folks here know who she was. I may need to do more work than originally anticipated to my '85 F-350. I have another C6 transmission to go in along with an external filter kit, new transmission cooler and radiator and so on to swap transmissions. I also have a new water pump and timing chain set for the engine. Originally, I was going to work on the engine in the truck. However, I noticed some discoloration on the side under the engine.

If I have some expansion plugs about to fail, I'll replace them in the summer rather than fight them in the winter. If that's the case, I may pull the engine and transmission as a unit and go through the engine on a engine stand. Because of the weight of the 460 engine, I may remove the front radiator support and come out through the front of the truck. How difficult is it to remove and later reinstall the radiator support on these puppies?

If I pull the engine, I'll do a heavy refresh on it. I've done this before but the last one was a Dodge of the same era. By popping the expansion plugs out, I can flush all the left over sand from the casting process as well as any rust inside the cooling passages. I nearly filled a 5 gallon bucket with rust and sand out of the engine I put in the Dodge. This will let the engine run cooler and more efficiently as well as making the mating of engine and transmission easier. I'll also clean the engine compartment up a bit if I do it.

On the Dodge, I removed the radiator and other parts off the radiator support. I then unbolted the fenders from the support. There was then two BIG bolts holding the support to the frame. Did Ford do their radiator support similarly? Third generation Dodges had a brace across the top for front engine removal in the 2002 and later Ram 1500's.

Many guys remove the rad support, so it's not that hard, you have the skills. I wonder if someone has a "how too" on here or youtube...

you should find the parts dia. in the Document's link on Gary's forum.

It never hurts to ask questions. I worked on a SBC engine putting a timing chain in once. No telling how many of those I've done over the years. However, I watched UofY seminar (Youtube video) with one that had a serpentine belt installed. That hid a bolt that would have aggravated me as it was hidden. I might have done something 50+ years ago but some one else might have done it last week. Their memory of it will be better than mine.

I CAN do things, don't get me wrong. I can count to 19 if I take my shoes off.

Can't fully agree with that statement.

Many years ago, there was a pretty lady who hated her father. Without knowing any better, I asked her to marry me.

The pain was not immediate, but dang, asking that question sure came to hurt.
