Appraisal $$

Over the past 5 years we have cosmetically restored our L99 to better than new condition.
It just turned 175k miles.
We are at the point being retired and fuel at $6 a gallon where we live that we really don't drive it that much and rely on my Wife's '16 1.6EB Escape @27.5mpg to drive all we can.
Honestly I see us driving around 100 miles a month now.
We believe that it somehow should be insured as an antique/classic at this point-possibly at an agreed value.
I am almost scared to drive it during rush hours on our roads here for fear someone on their darn phone will destroy it.
Any suggestions?

I don't have ay advice besides talking with your agent. To figure out it's value, that would be from an appraiser and/ or from proven similar sales I'd guess. I'm not sure how that works.

Do you have any pictures you can share?

I have the 85 Mustang GT vert sitting in the garage insured on an agreed amount. I seem to recall checking into doing the same with our trucks, but they wouldn't insure them even though my F350 only gets driven about 3k miles a year and the Excursion is probably 4.5k miles a year. I wish all insurance was an agreed amount, but I guess they make their money keeping things at bay in the gray areas...

Insurance is a frickin' racket. Plain and simple. If the judicial branch had any teeth and wasn't afraid to use them, there would be no need to worry about the person at fault paying up. Also, if there were any accountability amongst the masses, people would take responsibility for their f-ups and not rely on others' premiums to buy them new cars every time they caused a wreck.

Anyway, there are insurance companies that specialize in more-than-market-value coverage. Hagerty comes to mind first but I think there's another big-name collector car joint too. I don't think you'll get a run-of-the-mill place such as State Farm or Progressive to make a special policy just for your vehicle's condition/mileage/sentimental value.

Good luck!

EDIT:
I'm going to be a little ostentatious here, but for somebody who has more than two handfuls of vehicles, individual vehicle coverage is an absolute ripoff. I can't afford to insure all of them at one time even though I can only DRIVE one at a time. Therefore I have to pick and choose which ones get driven year by year, season by season. One policy to cover THE DRIVER and the VEHICLE HE IS IN AT THE TIME, so long as it's registered in HIS NAME should be all that's required. S

You've been on FT.com for 25 years? That's impressive.
Ok, why don't you park the truck in a shop and not drive it if you're worried about somethng happening. I mean if you're that worried why drive at all. Uber's are everywhere.
How many f250's from L99 are out there? alot. I realize you've put a ton of money in your truck, as we all have, but in the end, what is it really? It's an old truck that you can't take with you.
I'm retired too. We use our Excursion to Tow, That's it. I've got full coverage, only because it's only $30 more than liability, not because I'd ever think Insurance would pay anything remotely close to what I've invested in case it's totaled. If it ever is totaled, well, I'm not sure it I'd fix it. It's just not really that important. it's a mode of transport.

in Oklahoma, no such thing as insurance for one and all.
if it ever hits the road, it must have insurance and a current Tag

AND,
if you ever decide to put it on the road later???
guess what, they force you to pay for all the years it was sitting on blocks...
that just is not fair at all.

Since when is anything mandated by government "fair"?

Are you talking about backpay for Insurance or registration? Registration, I understand as that's what they do here in Colorado

It's all about getting their piece of the pie I guess. I think a new owner even has to pay a portion if the previous owner didn't register it for yrs. Can't wait to register my project truck. I don't know the last time it was registered. I've owned it since 2018 but never did anything with registration as it's been a non running project. We'll see what happens. I'm hoping that it will be mobile/ roadworthy this yr and I can register it

Sorry, gotta start small. I'll likely be running for County Commissioner in 2032. I'm sitting out this year's election for it due to scheduling conflicts and right now having time off whenever I want to see my stepdaughter.

We're no better off here than any other county in the country right now and we've got two recent out-of-state imports running this year along with a 20+ year county employee. We already have an out-of-state career government employee who has 4 years left, and one fence-riding go-along-to-get-along pushover with 2 years left.

Infraction incoming.

Not sure about OkieLand, here in the communist state of Kalifornia, at least we have a Non-Op status for my projects, I think I have 5 or so on Non-Op, which is you are stating it will not be operated on the roads once said projects are done, I have found it's best to wait until after the month it is due in to re-register it... my 63 reg. is due March 30 (IIRC) so when I get it running, I will wait till April to register it, IF I wanted to register it in Feb. I would have to pay the previous yr, and then pay again in March... so stupid, learned that one early on.
And they wonder why folks register their vehicles in other states... and yes, over the yrs of buying old trucks, early on I learned my lessons on verifying the registration was INDEED on Non-Op and not just taking the owners word... burnt once, then I bought a Ranger, po stated on BoS, vehicle is sold As-Is on Non-Op, well, DMV disagreed and went after him for prior registration. It's ALL an effing money grab for the politico's to throw at others for votes, I'll stop there before I step on my soapbox LOL

Anywhos, back to OP's ? I would call Hagerty and ask them, I have 3 or 4 of my trucks insured through them for agreed-on values, they do have some requirements depending on what you are asking for, but in my yrs of dealing with them, they are one of the best IMHO. They even called during the fires to see if I wanted them to come tow it (FREE of charge) to a storage facility if the fires were close! They called my buddy too about his Jeep he has with them.

If you've got the time, I would definitely call them and see what they can do.
