We installed factory power running boards on a 2020 f250 xlt, all the wiring is done, the running board module shows up in the IPC listing with forscan, we "enabled" it. The truck does have an 8" dash cluster, the power running board icon does show up on the dash screen now but we cannot select it, as though it is still ghosted out so to speak. when using the steering wheel buttons it just skips past the power running running board and goes to the next selection. Stumped on what we're missing and what to do next, any help would be appreciated.
Here’s an older long thread that has stayed active. It was for a 17 Lariat. There’s been a few threads here over the years where it’s been done. I put AMP boards on mine.

Does Forscan see the RBM in the device list? When the IPC option is turned on but the IPC doesn’t hear from the RBM, it will grey out the options. I’m thinking either your RBM doesn’t have power or isn’t talking on the network.
If it isn't talking on the canbus, what should I do? I tested voltages, high side and low side, they were in spec. The Ford dealership says all wiring is correct, they can make the steps run out and in, but cannot make it work as it should. Icon is still grayed out.
My only guess is the RBM is either the wrong one for your year of truck or it has incompatible firmware with your year of truck. Is the RBM brand new or used?
The RBM is new. If you use the test function in forscan the steps move part way out, not fully. Last night we held them down so they didn't retract, did the test over and got them all the way out. Drove over 5 mph and the steps retracted all the way in properly. But of course they will not go out as they should and the selectable option on the dash is still greyed out. There is a glitch some where, going to try a different ford dealer I think.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Brand new modules generally are missing firmware and need to be fully programmed to the truck, tell the dealer that you may need to do a PMI on the module to finish loading all the firmware.
Well, new problems, took the truck to another dealership, they said while reprogramming the IPC inside the 8" dash cluster burned out. Blaming it on being a dash from a 2022 king ranch installed in 2020 xlt. I dont know what to think now.

They are full of sh$t! They botched the programming and trying to push the blame on you, make them fix it!
What I was think too, went and brought the truck home, had to sign a waver cause there is no gauges....you know cause you might crash without having a working dash..
You should jump on www.f150forum.com. There is a giant thread on Forscan. One of the founding guys, and resident expert on these trucks and Forscan, is a guy that goes by the name Livnitup. His knowledge on everything Forscan related is unreal. He also does cluster work. He would likely be able to point you in the right direction. I know he posts here some but he is way more active on the F150 forum.
I will do that. Is it really possible to burn out a dash by reprogramming? They claimed because didn't modules and settings it can send too much voltages to certain things and thats why the dash burned out. Maybe the dash is still okay, just needs proper programming done?
