Hey everyone I got a 97 f250 I’m drilling the ignition cylinder out due to a lost key. I got the piece inside out but can’t get the outer part of the cylinder to turn. Does anyone know what I need to do here? I’ve looked on the forums can’t find anything that helps. Thanks in advance.
This is the pin holding the cylinder. Normally you insert the key and rotate the cylinder so the pin can be pressed through a hole in the column.
yeah I’m pressing the pin but it still won’t come out. I can’t even turn it to the on position. Something still in there probably? I thought the tumbler being out would make it free to rotate.
I got the cylinder out but now this guy won’t come out. Here’s the fella that won’t come out I’m assuming it’s this piece on the new cylinder. I’ve been fumbling around trying to remove it but can’t. I’d appreciate any ideas or info! Scared to drill anymore I don’t wanna replace the column!
I drilled it out and it worked. I read somewhere not to do that but it worked for me!
I mean, it may not be in the service manual, but it worked haha!
ok, for the finish… drill a small pilot hole 1/8” into the piece. Hopefully you have a small self tapper or sheet metal screw with a 1/4” head on it. You just need to get it in there to have some teeth in there. Then you can use pliers to grab the screw head and pull… maybe?
