Headlight turn signal issues.

Hello, recently I unplugged my blinker switch to replace my ignition, after reinstalling the blinker switch when I turn my headlights on a minute or so later my left turn indicator light turns on solid and my left blinker won't work but the right one will blink fine. If I turn the headlights off the turn indicator shuts off and both right and left blinkers work perfectly. My headlights were also dimming up and down at idle.

Alternator tested great, it is new. Added grounds from battery to body, and frame. Already had ground from battery to engine/ starter. Some lights on the dash started working after that, but headlight blinker problem remains unchanged.

So then I replaced the voltage regulator on the fender, and one pin was super corroded. So I cleaned the connector as best I could and installed the new regulator. Charging system seems better ( battery at idle was reading 13 14 13 14v and it just kept bouncing back and forth) battery at idle reads 13 steady. Headlight blinker problem remains, although my headlights dimming up and down at idle seems gone.

Any ideas, I was thinking maybe a new headlight switch as my sounds bad when I turn it and it doesn't really affect my dash lighting that much. Any directions would be greatly appreciated.

I would unplug the T/S plug and check all the pins to make sure they did not get bent when pulling it back together.
Also check to make sure the pins did not get pushed out of the connector and not making a good connection.

Then I would check the grounds out at the corner of the fenders.
That screw grounds the headlights and the park / turn light.
Check the bulbs front & back if they come on and not blink when it happens. Could be a bulb went bad at the same time and why it will not blink, not enough load.

I have found on Fords when the inside turn like stays on with head / park lights on it is a bad ground but the not blinking the load is not enough.
Guess a bad blinker could also be a cause?

I wonder if the alternator could be affecting the turn signals, even if it seems to be behaving itself. For giggles, have you tried the turn signals without running the engine? Key to On, but not Start, and see if that makes any difference.

A quick and simple troubleshoot test is to unplug both headlights sockets.
Key ON, engine not running.
See what changes with the turn signals.

It is common for the large headlights filament to provide a ground, meaning you are missing a ground somewhere. There's a ground wire in the headlight harness, close to the headlights.
Maybe someone can provide a photo.

Good luck, Jim

90% of the time your problem is a poor ground at the socket of the turn bulb that doesn't work correctly. Take the turn bulb out, clean the socket out and put the bulb back in, it may start working. Your steering column work sounds like just a coincidence.
