New update 4/20. Jets came in today, I installed the 57 jets and it seems to run pretty well. I put about 40 miles on at speeds of 65 to 70 with one burst to about 95 mph. At cruise speed there is no sputtering/jerking and when you put it to the floor there is no hesitation. I may go down to a 55 power valve from the 65 because of low vacuum at idle due to the cam. Right now I am way happier with this little bitty 390 cfm carb for my overbuilt motor than I ever was with the 600! I think the overbuilt motor is finally starting to run like it should have all along!

I am impressed that the new carb is working so well for you. Thanks for all the details in your posts. As for the 6.5 power valve, I checked a vid on the Holley website that says your vacuum should be twice your power valve number which is what have, which means your current power valve number is the right one. Enjoy your ride.
New update 4/23 I decided to install the 5.5 PV. I took it for a spin and it seems a little happier. No hesitation upon acceleration from start or cruising. I am now going to set the timing back about 2 degrees because it was 90 degrees here on Tuesday (today snowing) and it bound up once on hot restart. I am going to leave carburetion alone because I think it will be fine now. On another note, I noticed my Melling oil pump is leaking. It is a gear-to-gear pump that was discontinued use by Ford in 1956 Y blocks. In 57 they went to a gerotor pump. The gear-to-gear pump is the one that is reproduced. I was looking for an NOS gerotor pump and found that Melling makes a rebuild kit for that pump. I got up in the attic, dug around and found my original gerotor pump so I am going to rebuild it and put it back on. Everything I read says the gerotor pump is a better pump. Ford obviously thought that since they went with it over the gear-to-gear pump.

Leave it to you to have one or ten. The weird thing is when I googled that part number on the pump box which is the same as my pump has on it, it came up as a pump for a 352. Got the Melling pump kit today and it came with a new spring, cover oring, gasket for bypass nut, gasket to block and rubber for pickup tube. All for only 56 dollars. Going to install it tomorrow.

Final update the 390 is working well. 57 mains and 5.5 PV and overall it works better than the 600 ever did. The only thing I think I lost a little of is acceleration at highway speed. It does not seem to accelerate as hard from65MPH as it used to when you mash the gas. I may play around with the secondarie springs eventually but as of now I am happy with the way it performs.
Maybe you did lose a little bit of acceleration but I am sure you still have more acceleration than the unmolested 292 had to begin with. Sounds like you are very pleased with the drive ability of the truck now which is more important. Enjoy sir.
