The Class V Trailer Hitch Receiver also requires the Camper Package. I want the hitch but not sure about the camper package. 1- Are aftermarket hitches the same as the one installed at the factory? Better? Not as good? Bolt-on or Weld? Interfere with spare tire? 2- Does the camper package make the truck sit higher or ride rougher when empty? 3- How does the rear sway bar affect handling?

1. You can find an aftermarket receiver with the same or higher ratings. Most will bolt to the frame with no modifications to either the hitch or spare.
2. Camper pkg really has no affect on ride comfort or truck height
3. The anti-sway bar gives a terrific handling improvement. My last truck didn't have one so I installed an aftermarket kit.
For the price, you just can't beat ordering these parts from the factory. It'll cost you a little more to buy these individually in the aftermarket.
The class V receiver requires the Camper Package OR the Trailer Tow Package- since the trailer tow package is standard on ALL SuperDutys, you don't have to order the Camper Package if you don't want to. The package gives you slightly stiffer springs (not enough to notice any difference in the ride) and a rear stabilizer bar, which would help handling, especially with a load in the box.
I don't know about the rest of the guys but my 99 350 came with the factory hitch. I had to replace it because the rateing was 10K with a anti sway bar. I needed 10k without a sway bar. Make sure that it is a 10 without the sway.
My new baby (see sig) came with a camper package. I wasn't looking for the camper package, and didn't really want one to be honest. Now, I would never buy another truck without one. the anti-sway bar is amazing, the truck rides and steers MUCH better than ones without.
It's like a 200 dollar option, get it.
