needing to change the intake manifold gasket on my 00’ ford ranger 4.0. I have a few people offering to do it. Is it a monotonous task? Should I be weary of who I let do it? How extensive of a job is it ? I know is a gasket must be replaced.

That's the gasket between the upper plenum and lower manifold. Is that where your leak is? Leaks here are rare, hard to see, and usually results in poor running engine. If so, that's a pretty easy replacement.
Are you sure your leak isn't on the lower intake somewhere? The leaks there are usually from water or oil, easier to see, and may have no direct impact on how the engine runs. That's a different set of gaskets and is more involved to replace, but still possible for a typical home mechanic.

Are you saying the I purchased the incorrect gasket?
