So I was at Wrench-A-Part last week helping a buddy (mostly watching him sweat), and while he’s off hunting for a tool he forgot, I start wandering through the Ford F-150 graveyard. I stumble upon this 5.4L 3V and—I kid you not—the heads and front cover looked suspiciously clean. I’m thinking, "No way." I whipped out the impact, yanked the valve covers, and my jaw hit the grease. The cams looked immaculate. Like, "did a double-take" clean. Then I see the sticker: manufactured by non oe Reman Part #ZB27415. This thing had a heart transplant right before it ended up in the yard. Timing chains and water pump? Basically brand new. Now, I’ve got my own 2004 F-150 sitting in the garage since 2009. It suffered a "catastrophic timing failure" (R.I.P.) and I just went out and bought a King Ranch instead of dealing with the headache. But for $400 and two hours of wrestling it onto a wheelbarrow, I couldn't leave it there. So, what’s the play, boys? Do I send it to a machine shop to make sure I’m not buying someone else's nightmare, or do I just roll the dice on a $400 miracle? Super clean chain, phaser not so much Almost new gaskets Clean shinny timing chains Oil pump shiny, bottom end not so much but all the bolts have the paint from torque markings Cam looks almost brand new
[img alt=" I’m hoping someone can help me identify a remanufacturer. The cylinder heads with part number ZB27415.
One thing I noticed is that these reman heads actually have bearings on the cam caps, which the factory heads didnt have. Has anyone run into this before or know who makes these? Thanks in advance!
