I have a 2016 F150 with a 5.0 Coyote. It has about 165k miles on it. It’s been a good truck.
Lately, I’ve noticed under light acceleration when the truck is cold, it will have a tapping/knocking sound driving under light load. This seems to go away when it is up to temperature. If I leave off the gas, the noise goes away, instantly.
I am guessing that it could be piston slap. However, I know the timing tensioners can be an issue. I’ve search around, and most problems are referring to new motors

Could be pre-detonation. There are knock sensors that are supposed to detect and correct for this which may be malfunctioning. Try a load of premium fuel to see if it fixes it.

I filled up with E15 last night. I’ll see if that helps.
that also gives me an idea to check the data pids for a alcohol content. It is a flex fuel model— chevies get stuck sometimes, and I’ve been running 87 in it most of the winter.
