I love my new truck!
Yeah just curious on the sentiment. I searched the forum and looked at some of the topics, including one that had a pretty convincing video that is based on "science". Aftermarket filters dont work as well as oem filters and offer no performance advantage at stock power levels. Check. I come from tuning engines that make 2-3x more power than the stock intake system was designed to handle and would be impossibly restricted by such a configuration, if it would even fit on a turbo inlet that was 300% larger than factory. OEM intakes simply dont work in those situations. But I'm certainly not building a race truck, and value reliability over performance.
Which is why I will be getting a bypass oil filter setup as soon as possible.
And if I get my oil analysis results indictating that my oil is filled with dirt I will consider a change to my air filtration.
Thanks! I love her. Bought her to tow horses, in Missouri for now, but we'll ultimately move to Nevada.
I had a couple mustangs from the local BLM program for awhile, but had a couple kids and never could make the time to get them beyond ground work. Good boys though, I miss them
I got mine to tow a CTL around upstate NY after I move from NM this summer, and probably run a plow in the winter.
Now you got me on a deep dive to improve filtration. Obviously the easiest thing to do is replace the OEM setup. So I did a search for "2017 Powerstroke airbox" and found this:

Pretty neat. Expensive though. But less than a $10k 6.7 long block haha I can convince myself of anything.

All of these trucks come from the factory with cold air intakes… and they are fine.
There are aftermarket CAI’s and this is a touchy topic around here. They are not needed if staying stock. But there are a couple of companies making equally as good or better CAI’s, namely S&B and Banks if you so desire one. I personally run the S&B CAI with a dry filter and a sock on my 22. After 65k miles the intake tubes are pristine, my turbo still looks excellent and there has been no issues with my oil analysis. So, while it isn’t needed, if you want one that looks better and gives your engine a little growl, there are options that are trustworthy. But don’t expect it to be K&N.

OP, enjoy your 17 the 17-19s are my favorite and regarded by many as the “best” generation of the aluma-duty. Yours sits nice. You said it’s a Lariat? That’s a Platinum grille… maybe upgraded at some point. I’m not a fan of the CA/K&N setups for everyday use either.
The lady I’m going to Missouri to be with (shoulda married her in 1989 but stupidly broke up instead) has about 10 horses. Only a couple have ever been ridden. We are growing an equine assisted therapy and horsemanship business, and she does some breeding. I’m on a crash course to learn everything I should have been doing for the past 36 years, but we’ve got a lovely life stretching ahead of us starting in May when I move out there. So I sized the truck to be able to move them all in an emergency, but likely we’d only be taking a few to various shows or buying. She wants to be a Forever Branded trainer for BLM and would love to be a site for them in MO but we don’t have enough property there.
This one is an XLT, and yes it has a platinum grill. It also came with platinum LED's that are not installed and a morimoto conversion harness that is installed. When I tried to install the LED's the driver side low beam would flash then turn off, do the same thing once more and stay off. So I plugged the DS light into the PS harness and it worked fine. I believe there is a grounding issue on the DS that I need to track down.
