Yea guys, I have a 1979 F150 Supercab with a 460 with a front sump oil pan with a crown Vic frontend conversion. Now Wanting to add a 2015-23 ford mustang electric power steering unit using the Ranger Industries conversion kit. One commit I came across is you have to have a rear sump oil pan to be able to add the electric mustang unit. Has anyone gone this route and had to convert to a rear sump oil pan?
Is your engine already mounted? If so, everything else should work like its supposed to. I have installed the Range kit in a 1971 F100 with a CV front. You need the EPAS rack and the correct outer tie rods from the CV to make it all work. They sell a wiring kit that makes it easy to adapt, I used some heavy gauge wire and 125 amp fuses as directed and it works great.
I guess blowing that fuse isn’t really any worse than throwing a belt…. Unless you’ve got a short
Interesting idea to do a conversion though. Keep us posted on your progress.
I guess not, but this is a customer truck. I am doing a 1955 for another guy and he is insisting on going with electric AC and brake booster from a RAV 4. He wants to 'free up' power from the engine, but not realizing he is taxing the electrical system. This AC system pulls a rated 66 amps.
Hey Monkey-1, yes, engine is mounted in place. You heard of any issues with the BBF 460’s oil pan sump being up front. Not sure if they were commenting on oil draining from plug interference or EPSA mounting interference. Thanks for the info.

The 4.6 has a rear sump pan and mounts perfectly (duh), so I would think it would need a rear sump on any engine to mount. Outcast has the motor mounts you need for a factory height install that will clear a front sump, or a lowered set to clear a rear sump pan. I have CV swapped a bunch of trucks, but only installed a Coyote or 4.6 in the ones I have done. I have done some for folks that have swapped in another engine (maybe even an LS, yuck) but no first hand knowledge.
