Looks like the new 6.0 PSD is a winner! (Even if it is a stinky oiler

>yeah oiler for sure ,but I wouldn't buy a new design 6.0 in
>its first yr!
>let m work the bugs out first.
Granted I can see the reason behind saying this but for some reason I cannot see the logic behind it. (no offense 40, many folks have said the same thing).
The Super Duty with the PSD commands 65% of the Super Duty market and is the leader in it's category. Why in tarnation would we think that ALL efforts are not being made to ensure that this roll-out is a success?
EVERYBODY!! is chomping at the bit to get a hold of this engine/tranny combo. Could they really screw it up by us (the customer) discovering weaknesses that the high paid engineers/testers couldn't find? Are we to think that this truck has not gone under the most extensive, demanding testing available to a truck manufacturer? Are bugs really another word for planned updates through the vehicles life span?
I honestly see no reason why I shouldn't buy a 6.0L PSD Super Duty just because it is the first year of production.
I did with my mini-van (no jokes). First year production (96), It now has over 160K with no problems other than maintenance consumables and a transaxle (normal). Almost every other van owner with subsequnt years that I have met HATES theirs due to major problems.
I say get one now while the workers are paying attention to the build. You always pay more attention when you are learning something new and the "boss" is standing over you...
As always...my two pennies. ;-) :7
No jokes?? Do you really expect use to leave this one alone??

Unfortunantly...no...
benrO, many folks unfortunantly experience the same and worse symptoms/problems with their vehicles regardless of year.
My deal is that the 6.0L PSD has been under development and testing for 5 years and it is going in a proven chassis design. Should we really worry?

No offense taken at all !
but the jokes we can't resist! Minivan (short for little school bus)
Has it really been that long in RD? wow!
My thoughts with the internal problems within ford and possibly
navistar ,(only from what I read on the other sites) I don't think
I want to buy a new engine just in production!
I have no logical explanation or proof that there will be problems
just the past!and history always repeats itself!
The Diesel Dude could more than likely shed some light here !
sorry about spelling for your lastname if its not right.I'm not a diesel kinda guy ! But I do see a ton of these duty's wearing stroker
badges!

Do we so soon forget the first year probs of the V10....which required a "new release" in 1999.5?? They've got the oil eating problems hashed out now...unfortunately, some people who bought the first ones had a tought time of it. Doesn't matter how much R&D is done on a product, things will slip through the cracks.Let's just agree that you won't be hurt any by waiting a year or two!! Not to mention the fact that new models are always higher demand, so waiting a year will likely be better for your checkbook
:P

Well here we go...First off, My thanks to FTE for having such an informative site. I ordered a new Ford F-350SD XLT regular cab 4x4 at the end of August this year. About 4 weeks into the order my dealer called me and said that there is a change. It seems that the 7.3 PS is not available anymore. The order got kicked back and after a quick nod of my head and a few keystrokes.....My new ride will have the 6.0 and the 5 speed auto transmission. It should be here the 3rd week in Nov. It hasn't been assigned a build date yet. I will be speaking to my dealer in the morning to see if I can get one more change added. I see that the new option for the tow mirrors is available. He is going to jump on the computer to see if they can be added. Clearance lights, heated glass and turn signals. It'll be like a one of those fancy cars but be able to yank a couple cords of firewood. The dealer/salesman has been to the engine plant, been out on the testing grounds and has been at the truck plant and seems to be pleased.
I will keep you all informed to the best of my ability. Happy trails and again, thanks FTE.

It's only me again. I looked around here and found out that there are some new or newer options for 2003 on the SuperDutys. I saw the new Trailer Tow Mirrors are heated, have intergrated clearance lights and turn signals. (Ford Code 54K) First thing Monday morning I cruised on down to my dealer, showed him the new options list (much to his suprise!) and BAM!!!, He was on the phone with the factory and in about ten minutes time they, (the mirrors) will be installed on the new ride. Also added the SnowPlow Package that can be combined with the Camper Package. Basically this baby has everything a boy could want. Even have the Honey to sit in the passengers seat. Might have to arm wrestle her for the keys the day I pick it up but that's a good thing :7 I'm being told around the end of Nov. The trucks are in a short holding pattern while they make the swap to the 6.0 PS. Looks like an additional 2 weeks over what was first said. My fingers are crossed.Look forward to chatting with you all again soon.

It would seem to me that if you purchased the new 6.0 and experienced problems with it, you would be more likely to receive customer service above and beyond the call of duty. Ford rests its truck sales largely on the success of the PSD/6.0, so I would think they'd go to bat for you to make sure they had a satisfied customer. I'd say the same goes for the new 5spd auto.
There will undoubtedly be some bugs here and there, but if Ford want's to keep selling trucks, they'll make sure they're addressed.
I won't be buying a new truck anytime soon, but if I were, I wouldn't be afraid of the new 6.0/5spd auto combo.
Just my $.02,
Waxy
