Anyone have any suggestions on a front header panel for a wrong bed? Carolina classics makes one for 61-64 but trying to repair as original as possible and stamping is incorrect for year. Measurements off I think as well. Any help would be appreciated!
Are you certain Carolina Classics makes a Front Header Panel for 1961-1964? I'm not seeing anything for 1961-1963 other than the one sill below that crosses back to 1963. When I search on Bed Front Header Panel, I only get these results seen below. "Wrong Bed" was used from 1957-1966 (not wrong for 1957-1960) but nobody that I know of reproduces the front header panel for the wrong beds. Options would include having yours repaired or finding a good used one to cut out and weld into your bed.
If they're not available, a resto/metal shop that has a Pullmax/Lennox machine could make a panel with the three raised sections fairly easily using a simple mdf form as a guide. If they have the machine they'd likely already have the offset dies to make that shape. A bead roller with offset dies would work but it would need to be pre-stretched along the bead line to create the extra surface area needed to keep it from warping badly. I made similar panels for a '55 International truck bed 10+ years ago with a bead roller but I couldn't get full depth so the raised parts were shallower than the original stampings. A Pullmax could stamp the full depth of the originals and could do it in one piece, most bead rollers are small and youd have to make it in three pieces then weld them together.
