6.7L for sure. You should still be able to use remote start from the app, so no need for the fob.

 

You aren't throwing away $4K. You will get way more for that vehicle when you sell it, and diesels have a 100K powertrain warranty. If you need big towing power, consider it.

 

Me personally for that difference I’d get the diesel.

 

I’d argue to get the 6.7 whether you need big towing power or not. Too many seem stuck in the mindset of ‘well, if you aren’t towing 40k pounds, just get the gas’.

Most purchases are primarily driven by want, not need. Did I need a diesel, no. Did I want a diesel, yes. Coming from big rigs, I love the way a diesel drives. Love the smoothness, the way it puts power down, not to mention the efficiency. I had that mindset and initially settled on a 2023 5.0 F150 Tremor, while the Tremor was great and I loved it, even after a year I was never able to shake the feeling of ‘this isn’t what I REALLY wanted’.

So my advice is always get what you want. Don’t let the ‘do I need this’ steer you. You’ll ultimately regret it.

 

Well if that's the case then might as well get the 6.7, 64.5k isn't bad this day and age for an XLT PSD with long bed.

 

With the capability of the big gassers today, I wouldn’t put up with the headaches of a modern diesel. It’s a roll of the dice every startup between the emissions and the CP4

That's my worry but I wonder how much is actually blown out of proportion like cam/lifters in 7.3s.

 

The early 7.3 issues were addressed by Ford. The CP4 and emissions on the diesel can't be. Now sure, you may not have any issues at all, or it could grenade on you on your first trip. My last diesel left me stranded with only 8k miles on the odo, so I have a bit of a personal gripe with modern diesels.

I've seen this written a few times but I haven't seen any source. Do you know in what way the issues were addressed and what the source is?

 

As to the diesel, they started using CP4’s with pinned buckets in 2020 so that has helped with the CP4 problem to some degree. Of course it can still detonate though, but a DPK is an inexpensive and fairly easy part to add that will protect the rest of your fuel system should it fail, which brings the repair costs down to simply a new pump.

Ford also started using a 9th injector for regens starting in 2023 also, which was definitely an improvement.

But today, no new vehicle is without some sort of concern, even the 7.3.

I am one that didn’t “need” the diesel but I sure wanted it because we do tow our camper a decent bit… cross country and into the mountains. The diesel does it so well… up and down the mountains. And as a bonus to me, it does it at lower RPM’s. I don’t want to hear it screaming, even if it is “ok.” It’s also better in fuel efficiency and being able to use the big rig pumps, especially while towing is so much nicer than trying to get through the pumps at the front with all the others.

I’m not telling you to get the diesel or the gas, but I am telling you that no matter which one you choose you can choose to worry about it or you can enjoy it. I will say though, get what you want… even if that means ordering one. It’s so nice getting exactly what you want rather than settling for what’s available.
