How ‘white’ is………….
‘Performance White’? I have a 1991 F-350, paint code on the door jamb sticker indicates ‘YY’ , supposedly ‘Performance White’ but how white is that supposed to be? Our 2009 Explorer appeared to be a lot whiter. Can white paint become dingy, and less white over time? I have washed it several times, with different detergent/soaps, but has never been a very bright white.

Due to lack of good hiding of Tianium Dioxide white pigment unless used in higher quantities, most "whites" are lightly tinted with black or combos of high hiding pigments. How "lightly" and what pigments are used gives rise to many shades of "white". Since the door jambs are protected from sun, that area should be very close to original color.

YY = Colonial White.

Why not deep clean the vehicle and than wrap it in a high quality vinyl?
That way it still has the original paint, and the wrap would protect the factory paint.

Same color I have on my 87 Ford F150. It has been resprayed over the years by prior owners. I found the side panels and doors are less faded than the hood/roof. I had to respray those.
If you don't want to do the whole rig, take the fuel door off (if in good condition) to a shop that will mix paint for you in a can or container to match it.

Yes, there many variations of black just like white. Any variant of black by the original manufactures is cut using other pigments. Some stock colors have more blue than others and different variants of violet. A person can get Black with no other pigments. A body shop that I did business with for many years offered this to some customers who were more hot rod or custom customers. They did a repaint of my black convertible and shot it in the black and cleared it. I literally was expecting stock black 170, but they changed it without saying anything since it was a complete repaint. When clean, it was a black mirror. It was one of the cleanest black paints that I have seen. They had also did a bed cover and spoiler for me on one of my other vehicles in the same black. Ford Tuxedo Black and any other black other than the 1960s GM Tuxedo Black is not as "black" as what they shot.
