Safety Recall 25S94 - Steering column
I took my truck into the Ford dealership this morning for inspection. It failed inspection based on measurements they made and they ordered a new upper steering shaft for it, part number LC3Z 3E751 C. They said it was on backorder and would likely be May before they had it. More waiting.
I'm planning on running mine by the dealer tomorrow (but calling first to see if I can wait on it, or if I have to make an appointment). Judging from what I've read I shouldn't get my hopes up for a recall repair for a while (however, I'm not worried about it breaking, not after 108K and zero issues anyhow)...
I wonder if something as simple as an inspection could be handled by mobile service, instead of the inconvenience of taking it in. I'll quiz them about that when I call. Sure would be nice if that were the case.

My plan
I bought my 2020 several months ago and the VIN is in the recall range. I haven’t received any recall notices and suspect that Ford won’t be contacting me. If the part is on back order until May, I’ll take it in around May 15.
Sounds like the best plan to me.

Update; my dealer located a steering shaft at a dealer in the Atlanta area. I got my truck back on 3/23. I was fortunate as they could only locate one shaft. I was told that Ford would be shipping a batch out in early April, followed by a second in early May. Good luck to the others awaiting parts.

So the lower shaft has been junk from 2017 to 2024 leading to clunking and looseness felt through the steering wheel. And now there's a recall on the upper shaft?? My goodness.....
Ford just doesn't give a rip anymore, do they?

As soon as my sore back feels up to it (and after I finish the planned front brake job) I plan to do a much-needed cleaning of the cab space. When cleaning I'll see if I can't get some camera pics of the pinned repair that the dealer performed on my OEM shaft, and post them up for interest.
