Yessir, you are on to something here. However, I would use dielectric grease on all of the pins. WD40 may cause issues should it short out as WD40 can be flammable. I had the same issue on my 2017 and pulled it apart, blew it out with my compressor, squirted dielectric grease all over the harness pins, plugged it back in and THEN...took a freezer bag, cut off the closure, wrapped it wround the plug and ziptied the bag onto the harness plug on both sides.....never an issue again.
I did fill the connector with dielectric grease, said so in that description.
I never sprayed WD40 inside the connector, only sprayed it on the outside and the wires, and apparently there was an exposed wire somewhere, and that was what was making contact when it got wet. The WD40 dispersed the moisture, alleviating the contact and allowing normal operation.
