I'd never order a truck with one. My truck came with one off the lot but it's never been opened and never will be. I've had previous trucks with them and for me the change in pressure or something inside the cab when the window is open isn't comfortable. Also, if there's any dust/debris in the truck bed or laying on top of a tonneau it'll swirl around and get sucked into the cab. I experienced that many years ago.
See I enjoy the extra airflow in the spring/summer/fall on cool mornings and evenings, but then I grew up riding in the back seat of dad's truck, that DID NOT have air, but had 'wind wings' and a manual rear slider. Rolling down the windows and opening the rear slider without having to crawl back there, and letting the breeze have its merry way...Brings me back a little of my childhood.
When I had my 'Wagon, it had a sunroof...not an option I'd have ordered, but I got more use out of it than I expected to. My son did too...several times he would poke his head out of it while pulling into papa and nana's house when he was little.
It looks like the rear window has limit switches at each end. If you only wanted the window open or closed then a single upfitter switch and Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) relay (Upfitter ON = Relay ON (NO closed)) could be used to open it all the way and (Upfitter OFF = Relay OFF (NC closed)) would close it all the way.
Lots of windows on EBAY right now.
Do you have a part number for the glass? Where did get the information about the limit switches? Have ever seen or used a "latching relay". I think it could be used and with your limit switch idea and only have to use one upfitter switch.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the sliding rear windows (electric OR manual) are only available on crew or extended cabs correct?
AKA,...I am S.O.L if I want 1 in an XLT regular cab???
Any reason why Ford got rid of this option? I have one in my 2016 XLT reg. cab (manual, not electric) and do not use it often...but love it when I do.
Has anyone switched out the solid glass with defrost in it window with a powered sliding glass with defrost rear window? I would think you could run it with a up fitter switch.
wish I could do the opposite. Never use that damn thing and it was the source of significant water leak because the plastic tray it rides in cracks, plus the little drain got clogged causing water to just continually run down during rain storms. It took me hours upon hours upon hours to find it and fix it. I bet i'd have been $3k-$4k just in diagnosis. Thank god I have a little talent when repairing things. At any rate, I'd just be thankful you have a solid window.
I guess I am an expert on water leaks with these things. If you are trying to find one in your rig, mine has water intrustion in three places. The aforementioned sliding rear window, the rear moonroof drains not big enough for huge water flow and the plastic behind the door guards not sealed. I fixed them all, but man was it a PITA.
