Fuel Gauge Inconsistent

My factory fuel gauge has gone inconsistent and now the empty icon comes on from time to time and the gauge registers empty. I do have an auxiliary tank in the bed and it comes with a fuel gauge that is mounted in the cab. The auxilary tank gauge appears to register properly with separate readings for the Ford main tank and the aftermarket auxiliary tank. Any thoughts on why the factory fuel gauge is inconsistent? Both have worked properly for years. Thanks for your thoughts.

Usually, the resistor strips of the tank sensor are worn out when this happens.

Thanks for the tutorial Too Many Toys

Thanks Too Many Toys. I not in a position to drop the tank now and I still get accurate readings on the auxiliary gauge so I'll add this to the non critical to do list.

I've enjoyed your writings over the years. Thanks again.
