Rislone Engine Treatment

Has any one ever heard of Rislone Engine Treatment. I have been using it for years in all my engines some have over 400 000km on them and still run like new. I change oil evey dozen or so tanks of gas with a liter of rislone in every time. Does anyone know if this stuff actually does anything?

Thanx JJ

This is from their website:

COMPONENTS

Severely Hydrotreated Light or Heavy or Napthenic Distillates - 80-90 %wt.

Additive Mixture (Proprietary) Containing compound of Ca, Zn, S, P, N - 5-10 %wt.

Olefin Copolymer- (Proprietary) Viscosity Improver - 5-10 %wt.

(This may not be a complete list of components.)
The distillates are lighter oils or solvents.

The additives are anti-wear/detergent/acid neutralizing compounds.

The olefin copolymer is a viscosity improver that keeps everything thick after it heats up.

These are pretty standard ingredients in both oil and aftermarket oil additives.

Any API certified oil has all the additives that it needs during normal service intervals (5000-7500 miles). Rislone probably doesn't hurt anything, but probably isn't needed either.

I think jschira is right. I too am a long time Rislone user. Since 1977 I have been dumping one quart in every oil change. I recently decided to cut way back to using only the pint concentrate, figuring if there are any special additives, that is all I want, not their base oil. But now I am more or less using up my last several bottles and plan to run them the last few hundred miles of each oil change and then when that runs out, I may just quit altogether. For your reading pleasure, here is a thread on Rislone that has 67 replies, some pro, many against: http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...;f=11;t=000081

I read the post and i understand that some of these guys just don't like it for the price. But up here it is one of the cheepest at $3.00/liter. I just wanted to know if it had any harmful effects since none said it does i will continue to use it. all my engines should have died along time ago when compared to alot of peoples so the rislone cant be hurting.

Agree. No harm to using it. You might want to consider the concentrate, which says it has all the stuff of the full sized, just less of the base oil. As I think I stated in that thread, my '84 F150 had Rislone every oil change for 175,000 miles and ran like a champ.

The oil companies say that you don't need any additives. The additive companies say you do need additives. Go figure.

Back in the 40s and 50s, oil additives were probably a good thing. The old oils back then had very little additives in them. Mostly just straight oil. So a bottle of STP or Rislone made a lot of sense.

Modern oils have a far more extensive additive package in them. There are even specially prepared oils for special applications (high miles, etc.). As a result, aftermarket additives have evolved into "it can't hurt" items.

I guess this becomes a glass half empty/half full question:

"For a couple of bucks, why not?"

or

"It costs $2 extra, why?"
